Human-Robot Interaction Interface will complement WP2 TELE-ROBKO and subsequently will be an essential component that will contribute additionally to the innovation in the VET education and training by providing an ergonomic, easy-to-use user interface for interacting with the robot-based system.

It breaks the educational barriers by supporting intuitive and simple use, yet comprehensive and full-featured interactive software for robot control. It will provide new innovative means for teaching/learning STEM not only in VET but at all educational levels.

The main result of this working package is to design, develop, and evaluate an effective and user-friendly human-robot interface that will enable users, to control the robot- in our case to move it through the museum. The interface should provide two-way communication between the robot and the user. The information gathered by the robot sensors will be presented to the user using various representation modes: video and audio stream, text, images, augmented reality, etc. In this way, users will experience virtual tours through museums, closer and realistically with a high-quality user experience. The exchanged information strengthens the user’s trust to the system, sense of comfort and confidence, and contributes to the reduction of errors. The system needs to be capable of providing useful information to operators allowing them to make the right decisions, in the right way. The development of an efficient navigation control interface should achieve this. The system will also support an efficient and easy-to-use resources planning and sharing module, through the development of a tour planning.

The main outcomes of this working package will be:

  • Designed and developed user interface
  • Developed tour planning and scheduling system
  • Developed content presentation interface
  • Developed navigation module

Activity 1: Workshop (Greece)

  • Team integration and knowledge exchange

  • Help create synergies in the team.

  • Workshop minutes, co-creation and knowledge-sharing documents in the project repository, and team-building artifacts.

  • 18 participants (4 from the host organization and 14 from the guest organizations (2 from each partner).

Activity 2: Scope definition (Bulgaria)

  • Detailed Integrated Scope Definition

  • Boost the knowledge sharing, ensure common understanding and team focus.

  • Detailed written specifications on the stakeholders’ needs and expectations and the main WP features to address them.

  • Participation of at least two researchers from university partners and one from the schools and museums.

Activity 3: Implementation (North Macedonia)

  • Human-robot interface – alpha

  • Contributes to achieving the main WP objectives by creating the planned tool. It compliments WP2 TELE-ROBKO and subsequently is an essential component that contributes additionally to the innovation in the VET education and training by providing an ergonomic, easy to use user interface for interacting with the robot-based system. It breaks the educational barriers by supporting intuitive and simple to user, yet comprehensive and full-featured interactive software for robot control. It provides new innovative means for teaching/learning STEM not only in VET but in all educational levels.

  • Create an alpha version of the product, including: Implementation sub-activity 1: In the framework of this activity, it is expected to obtain the following results:

    – Developed methodology for requirements gathering and their engineering based on design thinking process

    – Designed mockups for user-robot interaction interfaces

    – Developed/implemented human robot interfaces.

Activity 4: Test and validation (Spain)

  • Human-robot interface – final

  • Help boost quality

  • The final version of the WP product

  • Participation of at least two researchers from university partners and three from the schools and museums.

Activity 5: Pilot activities (North Macedonia)

  • Integrated pilot version of the WP results in the partner institutions

  • Help move the results from the lab to the real world. Make them available

  • Integration of the results in the partner institution and preparing a version for public use.

  • Participation of at least 3 researchers from university partners 10 from the schools and 5 from the museums.
